GRAND MAGUS - Grand Magus
Review by: ”hogfeldt” (StonerRock.com)
Label: Rise Above
Release Date: OUT NOW
CD

Grand Magus did a split 7” with Spiritual Beggars on the Southern Lord label a while back and they also contributed with two songs on Waterdragon Records ”Greatest Hits vol. 1” compilation... and for those of you who have heard either of those releases (or any of their demos) it’ll come as no surprise that Grand Magus first fullength out-rocks most of the other fullength releases of 2001...

Grand Magus music of choice could easiest be described as blues-based hard rock, but they sprinkle enough doom on top of it to make this on of the tastiest rock `n´ roll cocktails I’ve had in a while.

This is yet another one of those albums that should be listened to from beginning to end with no interruptions and at the highest volume you can withstand without your eardrums bursting... so unplug your phone, lock your door and turn that volume knob to 11...

This album has no week moments at all, all the tunes are of the highest quality. If you’re not blown away by tunes like ”Never Learned”, ”Wheel Of Time” and ”Mountain Of Power” you have no taste what-so-ever... slow and bluesy with magick riffs and killer vocals by Janne... Fox on bass and Trisse on drums delivers the thunder that propels the groove in just the right direction.

If you add all this up you’ll have one of this years best releases. If you only intend to buy one more record this year, buy this one! You won’t be disapointed!
